Just Crew It!

Text Box: Not everybody wins, and certainly not everybody wins all the time. But once you get into your boat and push off, tie into your shoes and boot stretchers, then “lean on the oars”, you have indeed won far more than those who have never tried.	- Author Unknown

Rowing is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.

Rowing has been called the most physiologically demanding of aerobic sports, as it demands endurance, strength, and the ability to tolerate a great amount of pain.  You will be in the best shape of your life!

More so than almost any sport, rowing is a team sport.  Crew teams develop friendships that can last a lifetime.

Please visit the Rowing Programs section of our web page for more information about SJRC’s rowing programs and registration information.

Dues

SJRC is not funded by the school districts.  We are a non-profit organization funded solely through participation fees, charitable donations, and fundraising.

Please visit the Rowing Programs section of our web page for more information about dues and participation fees.

Uniforms

All rowers are required to have a unisuit and a racing shirt.  Additional clothing such as t-shirts, shorts, sweats, caps, jackets, duffels are optional.  You will be notified by e-mail about clothing campaigns and order deadlines.

Practice and Regatta Schedule

Winter Indoor Season:

Practice begins the first Saturday in December for the spring season.  During the winter months, practice is inside at our training facility and consists of a combination of ergometer workouts, weight training and circuit training.  Flexibility in scheduling is allowed for rowers competing in a winter sport.

Rowers will be evaluated based on a predetermined selection criteria during the winter season and will receive points for their achievements.  Rowers receiving more than 85 points will be eligible to row during the Spring season.

Practice is 4 days per week.

Spring Season on the water

In March we begin training on the Cooper River.  Practice is 6 days per week.  On weekdays practice is from about 4:00-6:30 pm.  On weekends, when not racing, practice schedules vary depending on whether you are Varsity, JV or Novice, but are generally during the morning.

All rowers are expected to attend every practice.  If you are not there, your boat cannot row.
